Food for Softbills
Over the years many softbills have bred in aviaries but, by
comparison, few have been successfully reared. Although many
different theories have been advanced to explain this state of
affairs it is now widely recognised that the main reason for
failure has been that the diet offered as food
for softbills has lacked sufficient livefood.
The export of many familiar aviary birds from south-east Asia
has been halted recently following a major outbreak of bird flu
in the area. The status of this trade is at present in doubt
and if there is to be a future in aviculture for previously widely
kept softbills such as bulbuls, Pekin robins, zosterops and various
others it will only be by means of captive breeding programmes.
Livefoods Direct is committed to providing a range of quality
home-bred livefoods to help softbill enthusiasts contribute to
the captive breeding programmes which may ultimately be the sole
means of maintaining stocks of these birds in aviculture.
There are many excellent proprietary softbill foods on the
market, while some bird keepers prefer to blend their own. But
whatever your choice of staple food it is important to supplement
it with quality livefoods.
The Livefoods Direct range includes mealworms (three sizes),
brown crickets (six sizes), banded crickets (six sizes), black
crickets (six sizes), locusts ( six sizes) plus curly flies,
waxworms and super giant mealworms.
There has never been a greater need for fanciers to establish
viable breeding stocks of softbills than at present and Livefoods
Direct is committed to providing not only excellent nutrition
but sound back-up adive for breeders.
